The Cult is a bit unique in that they have distinct eras that appeal to some fans while alienating others. This is probably why they’re underrated; you truly need to be open to their entire journey to fully appreciate them.

Sticking with the "cult" theme, I always thought Blue Oyster Cult was hideously underrated.

I consider D-A-D, Thunder and The Quireboys to be extremely underrated.

When talking about classic bands my pick would be UFO.

The Cult are the true and one of, if not the originators of "alternative" rock. They combine different styles so seamlessly and create a sound all their own. When I discovered them here in the U.S. (1984), I was into punk & post-punk and their Dreamtime & companion Dreamtime Live at The Lyceum album was for me, post-punk to the next level. Go on YouTube and check out clips from Dreamtime Live at The Lyceum and you will see & hear exactly what I mean. Then the Love album was a game changer. I had never heard anything like that before and since. Perfection, 11 out of 10. When The Cult went a little heavier into the "rock" I found myself becoming a rocker because of how good they were. And still are. I can't think of another "alternative" band that have been around since 1983, (starting as Death Cult) and not just still going strong, but stronger than ever, sound better than ever and are still creating powerful vital new music. Check out their latest album Under The Midnight Sun! CFFC
