Great playlist and article, Scott! It's often overlooked, but I wanted to make sure you're aware of Squeeze's "Squabs on Forty Fab" parody medley, as they took a swing at the "Stars on 45" scare we had in the early '80s!

I was on Squeeze, but only sketchily, in the day. Intrigued by this when it dropped, I fell in love with IT, yes, but then, it managed to send me back to the songs featured on this "medley"! A problem erupted when I'd hear, say, "Up the Junction," and when it got to the part it did in the medley, my ear/mind wanted to hear what was NEXT on "Squabs"!

Which, of course, is what the annoying problem ended up being on those tacky (mostly Capitol) "Stars on 45" singles, early '80s....they had a Beatles one and a Beach Boys one. All your favorites songs got cut off every 20 seconds or so, to then, go to another classic song, and so on! Enjoy!

It’s addicting, not gwina lie! I’ve listened to it so many times, a question has arisen! This doesn’t seem like a simple editing job, as there would be too many rhythm and key changes.

So, my guess is they entered the studio, and recorded these songs as we hear them (with editing done to make the “cuts” more smoothly seamless). This way, it solves the problem of how songs that abut themselves change keys (and tempo).

Thoughts, Scott?
