BTS: At the studio with Jakob Nowell of Sublime
Check out these Substack-exclusive pictures from my recording with the eclectic frontman.
Have you heard Sublime with Jakob Nowell?
We had such a great time yesterday during the recording! We, meaning he, did the interview shirtless. I wouldn’t dare take my shirt off after devouring some of the LTD pizza that my friends so kindly sent over for us to enjoy.
Jakob has big shoes to fill — he has stepped into his dad Bradley Nowell’s role as the new frontman of the iconic ‘90s reggae-punk band. In the band’s current line-up, Jakob is joined by original members drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson, who Jakob considers his uncles.
The night before he joined us on the show, the band performed on Fallon, and their first performance together as the new line-up was at this year’s Coachella, where they just blew everyone away. Check them out singing “Santeria,” and you’ll know what I mean.
And if you’re in NYC, you know that it’s been hot as hell recently. We were all sweating buckets in the studio. But the heat didn’t stop us from having a funny, insightful, and splendid chat.
I cannot wait to see what all Jakob will do with his other band, Jakobs Castle, and, of course, Sublime. This kid’s got a lot of great energy and chutzpah, and I really hope you all enjoy this interview as much as I did.
Stay tuned for some clips from the interview that we’ll drop ahead of the episode release, including early access to the interview if you’re a paid subscriber, here on Substack.
To hold you over until then, here’s some behind-the-scenes pictures from the recording.
